Hello Blog World. Hello Sticky Rice with Mango.

This is my first blog so we'll see what's to become of it. I had never imagine that I would start a blog because I had no idea what I would want the world to know about. Then I said to myself, what's there better to blog about other than food? Everybody eats it and everybody loves it. The name is inspired by a company I'm starting that will specialize in baked goods beginning with cookies and cupcakes and potentially expanding to many other types of goodies. Food has always been a great passion of mine and as I'm about to head off to Asia for another extensive few weeks of culinary endeavors (aka. vacation), I figured why not start a food blog so I can share my experiences with everybody!

The other day I was at Madam Mam's (an Americanized Thai cuisine restaurant that seems to attract all sorts of people except Thai's) and decided to order the Sticky Rice with Mango. It's a popular Thai dessert and everybody seems to love it. As I was nom-ing on the coconut infused sticky rice, I said to myself, "is this really worth $5.50?"

If there's something you should know about me, it's that I don't like ordering food that I can, or believe I can, make easily. You will rarely find me at steakhouses or Italian restaurants because to be honest, the items on the menu that they serve are always way overpriced for what you get.

Anyways, back to the Sticky Rice with Mango. Now I asked myself, how far can $5.50 get me in my quest to make this delectable dessert? I walked the aisles of MT Supermarket picking up what I needed; 1 can coconut milk ($.89), 1 large mango ($1.50). I had jasmin rice at home along with lime and sugar (which I will make the total of these 3 items out to be.. oh let's say $1 just to overestimate).

Once I got home I got right on it. Below an easy to follow recipe (makes 4 servings):

You will need:
1 cup jasmine rice
1 (generous) cup of coconut milk
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1 large mango
1 lime

Rinse the rice and put it in an 8" pan. Add the coconut milk, water, and sugar to the rice and bring it to a boil. Once it starts boiling, mix it around a little, put a lid on top, and turn the heat down to a simmer. Let this cook for about 20-25 min (stirring every once in a while) or until the rice has a nice cooked sticky texture as seen above.

Once the rice is done, pack it into an 8x8 greased pan and let it cool.


Skin, cut, and slice your mango. Drizzle lime juice on top to give it an extra fresh and tangy flavor. At this point you can also puree some of your mango to use as decoration as you'll later see.

Once cooled, divide the rice into 4 squares.

Put a layer of the mango puree on the plate and place the sticky rice on top of that. Add half of the mangoes you sliced from one side on top of sticky rice and garnish with lime slivers if you'd like.


So in the end, is $5.50 worth it at Madam Mam's? Hell no. You can probably make about double this recipe (so 8 servings for the mathematically challenged) with about $5.50.
